Review on John Boos Block WAL-B9S Square Walnut Wood Edge Grain Cutting Board With Feet, 9 Inches Square, 1.5 Inches Thick by Matthew Guiney

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It's like they have some guy at the factory with a .

I just received this, so consider this an "initial quality" review. The strips of maple are angled/non-symmetrical (see pic)One of (just one) the feet is so far out of position (see pic) that it sticks off the edge of the board. All of the feet are in slightly different positions, this was especially noticeable when I attempted to replace the wooden feet with rubber ones, I will probably still replace the feet with rubber ones but will drill my own holes. It's like they have some guy at the factory with a hand drill just drilling wherever he feels like. maybe fine if it had been a 10-15$ walmart purchase, but I expected more by the reviews and reputation here on ebay. That they don't even use a jig to drill their pilot holes really suggests a company that doesn't have it's act together in respect to quality control. On the positive side, it's a hefty piece of wood. I hope the other quality issues don't reflect on the longevity of the block.

Pros
  • Compatible with any type of knife, including Japanese and German steel
Cons
  • The thick surface may make it difficult to reach certain angles for cutting
