My 2007 wrx had a bad spool and I installed it when changing the spool.
My 2007 wrx had a bad coil and I installed it by swapping out the coils and my tuner recommended they be a notch colder. Installation wasn't as difficult as I expected and took probably an hour in total. The car idles perfectly and I had no problems with it.
