Review on Enhanced NETGEAR WG602 High-Speed 802.11g Wireless Access Point - Up to 54 Mbps by Justin Webb

Revainrating 2 out of 5

There is no jury yet.

I have to say the initial setup on a Dell WinXP laptop was very easy. It was up and running in minutes. BUT I encountered problems when trying to enable encryption which I think is mandatory. After that I just couldn't connect to the internet anymore! I've spent hours with their tech support going through the same things - even level 2 technology - and they still couldn't connect with any kind of encryption. I was told someone would call me within 24 hours so we'll see. So far I'm not happy - can't imagine waiting until Christmas to try and get this thing working :( 12/27/03 update: after speaking to a couple of level 2 techs at Netgear who seem to be knew what they were doing - I was able to connect with encryption but the connection dropped from time to time. I asked Netgear to send me a new device - and I'm glad I did. It seems that the device I bought from Revain is already obsolete a few weeks ago!The one Netgear sent me is WG602 v2.I was able to get the v2 working in no time and for now everything is working great :) I give gave it 4 stars due to poor tech support and the manual that came with it (they never called me back - I had to call them again)

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Nothing
