Review on Gizmo Dorks Acetal Filament Printers by Chris Drury

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Extremely difficult to print.

As mentioned before, this is a very difficult filament to print. It is very difficult to stick to the bed and is very prone to deformation. I couldn't get it to stick to a PEI bed, a standard Prusa PEI bed, or an "aftermarket" bed. CS Hyde PEI film, even at the highest temperatures my beds could endure (100C and 120C). However, I figured the acetal should stick to the acetal, so I ordered an acetal sheet and attached it to my bed. Printing at a table temperature of 100°C I was able to get the print to successfully adhere to the acetal film as expected. Haven't experimented with this much yet - don't know if lower heatbed temps will work. As for the filament/material itself, it appears to have a stiffness close to PLA, in addition to acetal's low coefficient of friction.

Pros
  • Filament diameter 1.75mm (dimensional accuracy +/- 0.03mm)
Cons
  • Newer model could have been chosen
