I personally think Freud Forestner bits are the best. The result is the flattest bottom and smoothing hole with minimal tear. They also stay sharp much longer than other Forestner bits I've used in the past. For this reason I have a full range of standard Freud Forestner bits in sizes 1/4" to 2". The only bit I didn't have was the Forestner bit, which is probably what I use most, and it's a 35mm bit. I've had a couple of other brands of 35mm Forstner bits that came with the concealed hinge attachments I bought, but none of them held up as well as Freud's bits. So I finally decided to buy them in 35mm. I've been using this bit tirelessly since I've had it and it still cuts through butter like a hot knife. Freud makes 3 different versions of forest lures. FB, this is the standard and cheapest. PB precision scissors offer the cleanest cut, while carbide-tipped blades offer the longest blade life. I have used them all. This is the PB version of the precision scissors, which you can tell by the fact that the cutting edge looks serrated. I personally wouldn't puzzle over what to choose between FB and PB. Both versions cut great. PB will be cut with a smaller margin, but there is no need to worry. However, I would not buy their Forestner carbide bits. Yes they last longer due to the carbide tipped cutter but they also cost more and the hole they drill is very rough. To me they just aren't worth the money.
