The acceptable pH level in a simple marine water system containing only fish is 7.6 to 8.4, but reef aquariums are more sensitive and need to be maintained on a higher pH scale of 8.0 to be held until 8.4. This test set has a level of 0.5 on the Color Reference Chart. . Factors such as the lighting and opacity of the printed chart and the translucent liquid when dirty mean that the human eye is also not sensitive enough to accurately distinguish between the color in that chart and the color of the liquid. This means that the reading of 8 can easily deviate from ether by 1 or more pH value. I bought this kit but will not be using it with my reef tank.
