Review on πŸ”§ TEKTON 18mm Ratcheting Combination Wrench - WRN53118 by Eddie Burgess

Questionable ratchet

This wrench came with my motor kayak (Mokai) and at first seemed like a really well made tool. The finish is beautiful and the compact size was perfect for not over tightening the screws as you really can't get much leverage out of it. I have screws with built in stops so they seem like the perfect tool. It served under the blanket for about a year, but then moisture got into the ratchet mechanism and it failed. So if it never gets into a high humidity area it might work fine, but a better quality ratchet lube will do wonders. So, having said that, I'll set the durability to one. The manufacturer really needs to switch the lube to a waterproof one. And remember, that size doesn't translate to a lot of torque. For a 5/8 diameter wrench, I could see that as a real minus. For my application and low torque requirement this was fine, but I see that in many cases this would not be the case.

  • Best in its niche
