From Skepticism to Satisfaction

It's hard to use Amazon's written reviews to really judge the quality of a thread. So treat this review with the same criticism! There are many variables. That is, the printer used, the slicer used, the settings in the slicer to create the GCODE file, the experience level of the person doing all the above settings, etc. Far from being an expert, I only have for printed 3 months, which puts me in the beginner category. That being said, I started my first three months printing exclusively in PLA due to the ease of use. I have developed my own product and have been perfecting the design over the last 2 months. One issue with my product is that it is heat sensitive due to its location in the vehicle. Therefore, the design of my final product prototype had to be printed in a material that can withstand higher temperatures, known as PETG or ABS. To avoid the nasty ABS fumes, I went with PETG. I've been told before that PETG is like a baby with PLA and ABS. Ease of use due to higher allowable temperatures and no strong odor. Win win in my book. To be honest it took me about 5 minutes to make my decision as there are so many options. I didn't want to be drawn into the void of reviews. I am therefore clicking on this black filament with great skepticism as I have bought PLA filaments with good reviews in the past which have been a nightmare for me and my setup. I can say that the learning curve from PLA to PETG wasn't sugar plum and lollipop. It had its own issues, but by researching the slicer settings and fine-tuning them, I was able to turn my PLA prototype into a PETG product. With decoration, it also looks more elegant. So for what it's worth I'm just ordering one more batch of this yarn in black, red and white. I live by the motto "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". So if I don't have a friend to tell me about another amazing PETG thread, I will choose PETG thread. Here is a list of my variables: - Print time: 3 months - Printer: SOVOL SV01 - Slicer: Cura 4.5 - Nozzle: 245* initial layer / 240* subsequent layers - Layer: 75* - Part cooling fan: 0 to 50% in layers from 0 mm to 4mm 50% 4mm to the end. - Other slicer settings: see photos. Happy printing!
