this is better sound than straight from USB stick to DAC, to amp, to IEM - to coax/optical out too To get from a USB drive to a PC I needed either an internal sound card or an external sound card (that's the device) - an internal sound card is required. I hooked up the wiring from my computer tech and wasn't sure I was going to get the result I wanted - so I took a chance and ordered this unit because it worked straight away - comparing audio over USB, coax and optical connections, the best sound is optical - cleaner, clearer - my setup - wav files from computer usb drive to smakn device, to smsl 100 DAC (via optical cable), to little dot +1 hybrid tube amp via RCA -Cable, to Astell & Kern JH Audio Angie 11 IEM - best sound yet - worth the effort - highly recommend - 5 stars
