Too bad to buy a universal garage remote that doesn't work. Luckily I found the instructions in another product review. VOILA! 2 buttons - 2 different manufacturers. It worked like magic. If the included instructions don't work for you, try these. Basically, the remote control must first be prepared before it can be paired with the garage opener. These instructions worked for 2 vintage garage openers: Genie/Overhead and Chamberlain/Liftmaster (Red).1. Remove the battery cover from the remote control. Press and hold the black programming button until the blue LED on the remote turns on and stays on. 2. Select which of the external remote control buttons you want to program to open your door. Press and release this button XX times (see manufacturer instructions for your brand). Make sure the LED stops blinking between each press.3. Press and hold the black soft button on the remote control again. The blue LED on the remote control should go out.4. Approach the garage door opener. Press and release the LEARN button on the garage door opener. The LED indicator should flash continuously, indicating it is in learning mode.5. Press the selected button on the remote control XX times (again refer to your brand manufacturer's instructions). If the programming is successful, the garage door opener should then activate. For the Genie garage door opener, I had to press the remote control 6 times. But to open the Chamberlain garage door, I only had to press the remote control 2 times. Hope that helps!
