Review on πŸ’Ž Enhance Your Blade's Sharpness with Suehiro 5000 DN Finishing Whetstone by Scott Rodriguez

Fantastic stone: whetstones

I have been using waterstones for a long time, have worn a lot and dare say I know my stuff at the moment. I tried several Suehiro stones about 20 years ago and wasn't impressed. This stone is by far the cutest pre-polish stone I've ever used. It follows my Shapton 2000, my other favorite and the only Shapton I still use. Both stones have fantastic feedback and cutting power. Rika is so good that it can be either a first stone if you sharpen a lot, or a whetstone if you just like a bit of tooth and don't mind touching it up more often (I always use a polishing stone afterwards, and usually a sling ). Worth every penny, don't even look anywhere else, Shapton 5000 is like a piece of glazed ceramic tile, glass stones are overpriced and Chosera are overpriced and not that pleasant to use at this grit. It's a soak, but a minor inconvenience for such a superior user experience.

Pros
  • Suehiro Rika 5000-DN baseless Grit: #5000 (finish whetstone)
Cons
  • high price
