Review on ARES 70016 Damaged Extractor Removes by Phillip Reed

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works GREAT but take your time with this tool!

As I mentioned before, take your time to use this tool, it will get the job done just fine. I used it to remove 5 broken studs from a Ford Triton dual valve exhaust manifold. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS and those broken rivets will come out easily, hurry up and you could be in big trouble. I don't recommend using a punch with this tool, although the manufacturer says you can. I'm not for the reason that you can't feel the movement of a broken bobby pin, which is very important! How I performed my extractions: First, I set up the tool with two wrenches (a 1 1/2" open-end wrench and a 1" open-end wrench) and tightened the tool until it bit into the broken bolt. Then I sprayed the stud with KROIL (because KROIL has better penetrating properties than WD), then used a 16oz ball-point hammer and hit a few "LOVE" blows at different angles to the sides, not enough to flex the stud but enough to ever make it swing. so little. After that, the broken bolts came out fairly easily with a 1" wrench, with little to no effort. I don't use percussion instruments for the simple reason that they're more trouble than they're worth.

Pros
  • Power and hand tools
Cons
  • unreliable
