Review on πŸ–¨οΈ Epson WorkForce DS-510: High-Performance Color Document Scanner by Rafael Calderon

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Extremely disappointed - poor quality product with very poor software

My ScanSnap ix500 died after 4 years and I bought it as a replacement. I hesitate to return this and pay another $150 for another ScanSnap. The Epson scanner is much inferior - even the lid and paper tray are difficult to open. The device does not close tightly and securely, which makes it look very cheap. The scanner is also very slow compared to the top of the range ScanSnap. While Epson scans pages almost as quickly, the software takes much longer to process each page. Speaking of software, expect a step down memory lane. Epson's software is very bad as almost every review says. The user interface is not intuitive, the software is poor, the quality borders on normal/poor and there is no workflow diagram. For those who have used ScanSnap and its software, this is a step back 15 years. It's not the best choice for small businesses or those looking to go completely paperless. If you only scan documents occasionally, this might be a good choice, although in that case you're probably better off using your printer's built-in scanner. I have Epson printers at home and I think they are great and affordable. I can't say that about the Epson DS-510 document scanner. Apart from these issues, not all buttons of the scanner work if you are an Apple user. I'll probably box up and return this unit today - it's frustrating to just touch due to its poor build quality. UPDATE JANUARY 2016 - I have returned this printer and will be purchasing a different brand. Revain's return policy made it easy to give Epson a shot, but the functionality wasn't available for MAC users and the quality was much lower than Fujitsu's.

Pros

Cons
