First of all a great product. They really are the size of a credit card. Product overview. Application: They are the size of a credit card and have a sticker on the back of the plate with information about the stones. Blue says: D3C: Coarse, 45 microns (325 mesh) Red says: D3F: Fine, 25 microns (600 mesh) Green says: D3E: Extra fine, 9 microns (1200 mesh) Below is the DMT logo with a phone number and a website address. The sticker is legible with lettering in a color that matches the identification of the stone grid. Holding the stone sharpening plates you can feel their weight, and if you lightly run your fingers along the grinding side of the stone you can feel the roughness of the stones. You can also see diamonds shining on the rougher blues and reds where the green code plate is very small and looks like a piece of polished metal. INTERRUPT THE PROCESS: Use a cheap knife to smash the bricks if you like. I have made. You can see small discolorations on the stones and believe me it won't damage the stone. You're still sharpening your tools. It doesn't take much pressure to cut these diamonds. I use the compressive force on my stones as if you were just relaxingly placing your hand on the counter. People say that when they use these stones to sharpen their tools or knives, the diamonds fall off because they press down too hard. In rare cases, it may be a product defect. SHARPENING PROCESS: It is said that you don't have to use water or oil. I lightly dampen the stones with water before sharpening. This is because the water on the stones collects the chips so you don't have to worry about them during the cleaning process. For example, to hand sharpen a knife, you can hold rocks and, *NOTE*, it's pretty easy to sharpen your knife without cutting yourself. I store the stones as follows. Follow these steps. (I wish I could upload photos) Raise your palm, take the middle of the ring and index finger and put them together, if you have small hands use your pinky too. Now you can use your thumb to secure the corner of the stone if you want, but you don't have to because you don't have to press hard to keep the stone from slipping around your hand. The weight of the stone is enough to rest in your hand or on your fingers without moving. Now I don't wear gloves when sharpening knives, and I know I have to for stones this size and because they help my hand. Yes I can cut myself easily but I like to feel the stone in my hand and I have experience. For this review I will advise you to wear protective leather gloves just for my own peace of mind so you don't cut yourself if you lose concentration or slip. It requires little pressure and is slow. one pass should last 2-4 seconds. Don't go fast, go slow and confident. Start with a blue stone, then a red stone, then a green stone. For coloring knives, green or red may be enough. For a good aftercut you need a blue color or if it is completely dull. If you do a lot of regrinding and deep shaving, these stones are not for you. Watch out for DMT Dia Sharp 8 inch bricks. They are available in all 6 grits. They are designed for quick and easy sharpening on the go or even at home. DMT slide folds and/or sharp DIA stones. I am talking about 8" DIA sharp stones because they are the only size among all 6 grits. from Extra Extra Coarse to Extra Extra Fine. CLEANING: To clean the stones, simply rinse with water, get Get a soft toothbrush from the store and rub it lightly Water and a toothbrush is enough to remove metal shavings Do not use an SOS pad or a metal wire brush Why you ask?1.These stones will cut the metal off the brush and just stick more metal in. 2. You can scrape the diamonds if you press hard. All you need is a toothbrush and some running water. For a harder cleaning, you can now use detergent or dishwashing liquid. When you remove these stones don't press very hard but use light pressure and rinse/flush them after each tool cleaned, the shavings don't dig deep into them I will sharpen 1-3 knives before cleaning LOCATION RUNG: To store these stones, make sure they are 100% dry. After cleaning them as above, you need to dry them. do not dry them with a paper towel or towel. Just pat them dry. If you like, use a blow dryer after most of the water has been removed, or use an air compressor to gently blow off excess moisture. Tuck them back into their respective sleeves. I place the stones with the cut side toward the colored side of the holder. The reason for this is that the clear side is a bit short and gives you the chance to have your stones exposed easily and I would rather have the back of the plate corner exposed than the cutting front. In conclusion, I would recommend these stones to anyone who wants to properly store and care for their tools. They are the right size for travel. If you're a survivalist, they really are pocket sized and credit card sized. It is worth buying this combo pack, not individuals. You really use all 3 stones. If you have large bench stones, you should still get them. They are small enough to fit perfectly in a hunting/fishing box. They do NOT sharpen teeth. You will need the Diafold Serrated Knife Sharpener to do this. I would recommend buying all three options. I wish they were in Extra Coarse and Extra Extra Fine sizes. Maybe they will come out in these styles in the future. With enough pressure from consumers, they will have an incentive to produce them. When there is demand, there will be supply, as a DMT rep told me over the phone. If like me you would like 12" Magna Stones or "Diafold Serrated Knife Sharpener" in all 6 mesh options please call DMT and let them know. They need to know there is a demand for them beforehand they make them. I hope this review was helpful, if so please like and comment if you would like. IF this was not helpful please leave me a comment letting me know what was not helpful and what information was missing and I will be happy to add the information to the review. Have a nice day!
