Disposable scrap - external accessories

Just ordered a third one for my '86 F150. I have to be stupid, but I can't think of a better option than changing this thing every few months when it breaks. The original that was in the truck lasted over 30 years. It's terrible but I'll just have to keep buying them until I find something that lasts.
