I had to saw off half an inch of the sink drain pipe in a 1951 bathroom because the swivel nut had frozen solid to the drain pipe and I couldn't apply much force without risking damaging the old cast iron drain pipe. So I used this to connect a new plastic drain pipe to an old cast iron drain pipe and it seems to work fine - no leaks. It was a little awkward to tighten the clamp on the side of the drain pipe as it was very close to the wall, but that's not a problem with this item. I had to tighten the clamps to prevent leakage, but that was to be expected.
