My Shun knives have been in need of a sharpening for a long time but I have never bothered to return them to Shun for their free sharpening service. Considering the sharpener is less than $20 I would give it a try. I followed the directions on the box and finished sharpening all 4 of my Shun knives (peeler, utility, 10" chef and 8" santoku) in about 5 minutes. I followed the curve of the blade through the rough, fine, and grinding steps. All are very hot again and pass the Ripe Tomato Test. I will note that none of my blades were chipped or broken at the edge when blunted.
