The original is the best. Yes, the smell/taste will disappear.
original is the best. Yes, plastic taste and smell. Yes, it takes time to unravel. Just run it through the dishwasher and use it regularly and after a few months the taste/smell will be gone. No, there is no harm in drinking water from it. HDPE bottles like this are indestructible, lasting over 30 years and yes you can see the water level in them if your vision is really bad in which case you have to walk with a stick or a dog to guide you. Get this bottle, you won't regret it. My brother still has his original, it's over 30 years old.
