Review on Dexter Schlage J40SEV619 Seville Nickel by Carlos Barete

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A good product. However, there is one less outstanding feature.

I love the look of this lever. My only caveat is that switching handles when they need to be installed on a door that requires switching is a real hassle. A "switch" involves inserting a pin or small screwdriver blade into a small hole. This is to free up the handle so you can place it on the opposite side, allowing it to line up correctly in relation to the door. It takes patience and strength to release this small mechanism. I ordered 6 of these grip sets and made this replacement on 4 of them, twice for each grip set. It took MUCH longer than I expected for these buttons to come loose for a change. Not that big of a problem, but a definite problem for an otherwise simple installation job. As for the end result, the handles look and work great and I'm very pleased with the upgrade they represent over the similarly styled bright gold handles that were on the doors when we bought our home. So buy with confidence. and allow extra time to change handles if door orientation requires it. Oh, one more thing. The "latch" aspect of this handle can be bypassed by simply turning even the nail on the outside of the door. In other words, instead of sticking an object in the outer handle, it had a small coin-like "key" notch that simply turns 1/4 and unlocks. So don't think of it as a reliable locking mechanism. Children especially can find this quite amusing and frustrating. Let's say your daughter wants to get away from her little brother and locks herself in her room. It won't necessarily put a man off when he discovers how easy it is to simply twist the outer mechanism to enter. Here it is.
