So Far So Good - Networking Products

I had an E1500, 2 E2500 and just bought one of these. By and large, consumer routers, even the most expensive ones, are junk. I would never use a consumer router (including this one) for mission-critical tasks, but as far as consumer routers go, the Linksys E-Series has been pretty reliable. One of my E2500's has failed but all the others have been working great for years. It has a vastly improved web interface over the E2500, but overall it's very similar. I've done some testing on this EA3500 and so far so good. Be sure to update the firmware if you buy one of these. The firmware on the one I received is outdated. Luckily, the firmware update process consists of simply clicking the update button on the web interface. It's easier to update the firmware on this router than any other router I've owned, although it seems to have reached the end of its life so I don't expect any more firmware updates (the last was from 10/2014) . . It's possible that many of these complaints can be resolved with a simple firmware update. If you're concerned about security, I also strongly recommend disabling WPS (it's on by default) and not using cloud access, although I never expected it to be as secure as a corporate product, especially since it doesn't have one more updates. I paid $22 for this (upgrade) and it's better than anything else I've used in this price range. . If for some reason it bites the dust, it's pretty much disposable at this price point.
