I recently bought this and it smelled musty and musty and had a few dirt particles in it. So I did a little research on fiber and this is what I found. "A distinct musty odor indicates damage to the moisture inside the bales." Nor can it be stored with a damaged bale present as it would damage the others. I would use this if it were fresh but I can't because of the smell and can make my birds sick which is very disappointing and a waste of money :(

Pros

SUITABLE FOR NEST BUILDING --- SunGrow coconut fiber is ideal for nest building. Small birds like finches, canaries and budgerigars can build a cozy nest out of fibers. Our coco coir doesn't hold water in the nest and will deteriorate over time. They are like fibers that birds find in the landscape.
