I originally planned this as a project for my son and I, but after receiving the kit it's a bit advanced in design - no problem, we're still having fun playing. with him and I had a great time putting it together myself! (If you're looking at this for a kid, probably a 3rd grade is good to help with the building a lot, maybe tech-savvy middle graders could do it themselves, especially including the programming bits.) This is a well thought out kit - you get it everything you need except the Raspberry Pi itself and the MicroSD card (you can find all the downloads needed to prepare the MicroSD card on the website) - and all high quality parts. Following the instructions doesn't make it as easy as building a Lego robot, but rather easy - but that only scratches the surface. The servos, sensors and stuff included in this kit can be coupled with a Raspberry Pi (and maybe some programming skills by learning what the developers did to build a car) to create all sorts of things - there are no limits to the possibilities (and , of course , can be supplemented with more details). This is a great way to introduce an electronics newbie (but not a computer/programming newbie) to robotics!
