The assembly of these perches is fine. However, after my Senegal parrot started showing signs of possible exposure to toxins, I read about the dangers of zinc in galvanized metal (a major source of poison for pet parrots). So I tested the bolts, washers, and wing nuts with muriatic acid (which reacts with zinc in galvanized metal by foaming). The results have been positive - all the metal used in these perches is toxic! I had to replace the included gear with stainless steel, which cost a lot more than these perches. Make sure all metal used in your parrot toy is stainless steel! If not, replace or discard.
