I connected two 12V 21Ah Mighty Max YTX24HL-BS for Arctic Cat Prowler 650 in series; They are similar to deep cell marine/RV batteries. The batteries are installed in weatherproof plastic storage bins with charging ports on the top of each bin. Although the motor voltage is 24V, each set of clamps shows only 12V across each battery. I connected a 20W solar panel to charge a 12V battery using DPST to select one battery at a time. You will also need a DPST switch to power the motor with a 20A fuse. I did a "test drive"; 4 miles round trip; I pedaled a lot, but the motor helped me a lot. You can't go super fast, but pedaling was easy and not tiring. On return, each battery was 12.59V when it started at about 12.71V. There were slight ups and downs on the trip, but I wasn't tired when I came back. Batteries are not light; I chose 24v to not add extra weight from more batteries. I don't mind the average speed; I've had to do a bit of exercise and it's better than the treadmill at home and once I figure out my "workspace" I will feel confident during my workout.
