Review on Fix Security Light Passlock Issue with APDTY 035812 & 035813 Ignition Lock Cylinder & Starter Switch Housing Combo Kit by Jake Davies

Grand Am 2001 and terrible problem with PassLock.

2001 2.4L Pontiac Grand Am SE1. I turn the key, the car starts for a very brief second and that's it. The SECURITY indicator never flashes, it just stays on. The light never came on while driving. I drove for a week with no problems and then turned the key and didn't leave. It will happen at the worst possible moment. The famous PassLock. I curse you! Everything is fine, the ignition module and fuel pressure are fine. I've searched the internet and everything points to the ignition lock cylinder needing to be replaced. After checking I found that the same product sold locally was almost double the price and mostly identical to what was sold here. So I realized I have these tools, so what the hell am I in the game for. Let's do that. Uninstalling and reinstalling went smoothly. After having problems with the programming, I called the seller (phone answered quickly) and he explained to me that you need to make sure you disconnect the ground on the battery (which I did. I read the instructions that came with it), the car doors MUST BE CLOSED when he did the reprogramming and that in some cases the process could take MUCH longer to be successful he said that in his experience it could even take an hour or so and he said it did have done a lot of it. It is also recommended to attach a charger/booster to the battery during reprogramming to keep the battery voltage at the correct level. So tomorrow I will follow his instructions and hopefully get back to work. This is very annoying. I love my Grand Am. Damn it, PassLock!YMMV Too bad the keys that came with the cylinder were Pontiac and not Chevy. Oh what a burden a Pontiac owner must carry.
