Review on Zulay Premium Garlic Press with Soft Easy-Squeeze Ergonomic Handle, Enhanced Yield Garlic Paste Extraction, Multipurpose Garlic Crusher for Nuts & Seeds, Professional Mincer & Ginger Press by Cindy Moore

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Pleasant to the touch, good pressure, easy to clean, but with one hand

This garlic press fits comfortably in the hand. It's durable, a good weight and seems like it should hold up well. Haven't seen any rust or anything like that so far so good. It's actually a lot easier to clean than another IKEA press I broke years ago by squeezing ginger (bad idea). It's fairly easy to clean, which is very welcome. I had it for about two months or so. So to the problem. First off, I'm no expert on garlic presses. So I really don't have the vocabulary to describe it well (a picture really is worth a thousand words). So here it is: The rear ribbed part of the press that pushes the garlic through tiny holes into the round chopper - that rear part - isn't machined to tight enough tolerances. This means there is a significant gap between the edge of the back and the round socket it fits into. Why is it important? When you press on the garlic, most of the clove is actually pushed through that gap, not crushed. After crushing a few cloves you'll have a good chunk of garlic that the pack pushed through the gap and you need to bring it together in the center of the jar and squeeze again. After a few cloves, you'll have enough garlic to crush to make almost a whole clove of crushed garlic. It builds up quickly and frankly it annoys me and slows me down. Also, I then have to stick my fingers into the almost, but not quite, crushed garlic. Half the reason I use abs is so I don't have to rub my hands with garlic and fight the odor. Not sure why they designed it that way but overall it takes a 5 star product and downgrades it to 3 stars.
