They work well as long as you thoroughly rinse all food waste and minimize the amount of moisture that goes into the trash. They break FAST, which is bittersweet. These bags were clearly made to be landfill degraded to minimize the amount of petrochemical/plastics filling our local pits. The ability to decompose is what I strive for. And some products take too long to do this. I LOVE the fact that they break quickly. It is the buyer's responsibility to adapt the waste flow to the product. Our family composts, eats no dairy, and eats very little meat. This significantly limits the amount of non-recyclable or compostable waste we throw in the trash. With that in mind, it takes us about 7-10 days to fill one of these bags for a family of 5. I would say that after 4-5 days the bag will start to disintegrate (due to the moisture added with the waste). I did my best to extend our schedule to take out the trash every 4-5 days and it was pretty good. There was one case where the bag broke very quickly (2 days), but that was due to Thanksgiving guests not being familiar with our workflow and throwing food in the bin. Not cool, but I can't blame them for not understanding our environmental needs and wants. I think the only thing I would wish for these bags (hence 4 star rating) is to redesign the top to have ties. No drawstring, just a curved shape to help users with 4 attachment points.
