Review on Enhance Engine Longevity with Purolator L25288 Premium Spin On Oil Filter by John Stefko

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works well but not for long life

I use full synthetic natural gas oil along with 25% capacity (sold per quart) Lucas Oil Stabilizer every 5000 miles. 5 20 in winter, 5 30 in summer. It works well, the oil is always clean and free from bad smells. If I follow the oil life reset in the car I will go from 6000 to 6700 miles. I don't like to drive that long because then the oil turns black; GM says you can follow the life monitor, but they want to sell you a different car. I never checked the oil on either occasion; I'm sure it's normal in both cases, but oil filters can wear out with oil. They make extended life oil filters, but this isn't one of them. Not that it's a disparagement; You pay almost twice as much for a filter this good. I've never cut open old ones because of the messiness after use, but by the look of the oil I'm sure the folds are in good enough shape to serve their intended purpose. A good rough texture allows it to come off without saying a four-letter word; A plus for the do-it-yourselfer. I have all kinds of oil filter wrenches, but grabbing and squeezing with a large pair of pliers to block a passage is the only tool that sometimes works on slick filters. safer than punching with a screwdriver.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Definitely bad product
