Review on Efficiently Pack Bearings with GEARWRENCH Hand Bearing Packer - 2775D by Chad Young

Terrible instructions but great once you get the hang of it

Instructions are terrible and what you think is easy to understand isn't. Once you get it right (without the help of instructions) it actually works pretty well and you feel stupid for not getting it right from the start. A wheel bearing seal is just dirty work no matter what, but it's a lot less messy than the double-cone type you use with a grease gun, and it uses a lot less grease. The first problem I had was how to get the piston. Because of this, I thought mine was accidentally glued at the factory. The trick is in the button you push, take off the part that the button screws onto, screw it onto the center shaft that holds the grease, then wiggle as you pull it comes out. You can use this. Use a grease gun to fill or pack the bearings, but it is not necessary. It has a built in grease gun. I've just used it with Timken Red Bearing Grease and was able to squeeze it in by hand quite easily, but if you're using a thicker grease or just aren't very strong, the instructions show that you can actually put it in a vise and squeeze it. (the only useful information in the instructions). The only real design flaw is the "dust cap" you use for storage. It works as intended, but I'd prefer it if it was like a cap that fits over the top of the outer case rather than like a loose piece that just sits in there. g, of course buy again. It also makes a great wedding or baby shower gift.

Cons
