Review on Shun Classic 5.5-Inch Santoku Knife: Japanese Handcrafted Kitchen Knife, Small to Medium Sized, Silver - Best Quality & Durability by Danay Lewis

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Great purchase for chefs with small hands cutting small veggies. Just don't try to sharpen it or it will splinter!

I majored in cooking, appreciate good steel and have always wanted a shun. That's all it should be, but 5 inches isn't big enough for everything. The blade is delightfully sharp and has helped me cut through the thinnest pieces of brunoise with ease. For a dish like potatoes, Anna, where you need to cut the potatoes into the thinnest, this is a great knife. So far, this is a relatively small potato. All in all a first class utility or paring knife. We need to save up and get a 7 inch one day. BTW, for $50 with my free two-day Prime shipping, it was something I just couldn't refuse. Changing my rating to two stars. While the blade is nice to hold, the blade snapped on my ceramic sharpening rods when I first tried to sharpen it. He was really handsome and seemed well built, but he'd never been so sharp and so damn fragile.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Not the best
