window = YES! Linux = NO! See below for EXCITING details!

Works. As. So if you're a Linux or Windows user, here's the breakdown: Windows: Plugged in, Windows 7 picked up and installed the drivers right away. I was connected to the network via ethernet, maybe that helped. With Windows Scan and Fax, faxes are received and sent normally. Didn't check the baud rate. Mbps vs Kbps. It just won't happen. Although I removed the fax part from the windows printer list and to fix it I had to remove/add the fax service/group/account in the scan and fax window. Sends pages at about 40 seconds per page over AT&T U-Verse.Linux: Good luck! So when I start Fedora 25 and run lspci it shows up and I can see it. However, the computer will not see it as a network device, or as a modem, or otherwise. It doesn't register a /dev/ entry for it, and if you search the web you'll come across Linuxant, a site that provides access to these HSF/HCF modems. So I tried and tried and encountered errors every time. Spring. I'm sure the driver worked when it was last updated. kernel 2.6. We currently have kernel 4.8. Having exhausted all available options, I consider this a bug for Linux. Since I live on Linux most of the time I have to deduct 2 stars for annoyance. Other Thoughts: If you can find it cheaper, go by the Conexant name. It's the same chipset I found out while working with the Linux part. It seems to work fine on Windows. I wouldn't use the CD that came with it. It contains useless software. So connect and download the latest drivers before installing them on your computer if it depends on the internet and you're running Windows Vista or earlier. If you are looking for this as a cheap investment for random linux fax like me and dual boot then I would buy it as for me it's not bad to boot on the windows side for random fax. . If you want it for Linux, sorry it won't work. The USR5610C is an HCF modem that might work, but your best idea is probably a PCI serial port card and an older serial modem. with faxes it functions at least. So I would recommend it for Windows users, not Linux users as written on their USR site, but I didn't believe their site.

Pros
  • Ideal for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
