I expected each spool of thread to be different shades of the same color. That's not the case. Although very few fit this description, most are just a base color and white. However, there are several spools of thread in different colors; these are my favorites because the color scheme is very appealing and follows the principles of color theory. Although I will eventually find a use for all of these spools, I bought them so that embroidery designs of natural objects (e.g. flowers, leaves) would display naturally for species that do not have solid colors. I'm afraid I won't be able to use most coils for this purpose. Despite my disappointment with the color combinations, the threads are of very good quality and I have not had any problems with splitting, fraying, tearing etc when embroidering.
