The description of this item which states that "all parts are made of 316 stainless steel" is either a scam or a misrepresentation. The retaining spring has such a strong magnetic attraction that it appears to be made of ferritic stainless steel at best. "full sea class" is not like that. at twenty dollars for a four-pack, they must be at least as advertised. They'll be returned, and I'll do what I should have done in the first place - go to the Western Navy with a magnet and find out what I'm buying before I put the money into it. EDIT JULY 14: I received the second half of this order, four more of these things. For some reason the second set has legitimate stainless steel retaining springs. they hardly attract the neodymium magnet and are not recognized by the ceramic magnet (poor magnetic quality is probably a function of work hardening or heat treating). I am keeping these four pins to see how the feathers hold up in sea conditions.
