I used this on a kayak and it works great for that. He picks it up off the ground and lets me pick it up so I can easily walk under it and also drive cars under it. The problem occurs when you try to downgrade it. The line lock does not work when you try to lower the kayak. The same method works well on bikes, allowing you to get almost directly under the front reel/line retainer. Things like a kayak are so wide that you have to step out of the way to lower the kayak. The problem is that if you do this, there will be a lateral force on the fuse held in latch mode, meaning it won't fall. Launching a kayak in such a situation is a certain safety hazard, and launching a kayak becomes quite dangerous. This device should NOT be used with wide items such as kayaks or canoes, even though it should be designed for this application.
