I have purchased and used both this unit and the wired version from Carlinkit. If you absolutely need wireless CarPlay, get a wired one. I'm giving it three stars because some of the issues that I don't think are manufacturer-related are oversights about how Wireless CarPlay is supposed to work. However, your problems do not help. So, for starters, install the application on the Android head unit. It's ok, I haven't had any problems. You plug the product into the USB port and connect to the device via Bluetooth. This is a bit tricky as it takes a while for the device to be discovered and when that happens I have to react and connect very quickly or it won't work. This happened about 1/6th time. Once connected, your device will connect to the device's Wi-Fi: for the uninitiated, this is fine, wireless CarPlay requires both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. However, about 1/3 of the time the device fails to connect to that Wi-Fi and then the device and CarLink just go back and forth, pairing the phone and failing to connect to the Wi-Fi-Fi. And of course CarPlay doesn't work. Now when you connect it to Wi-Fi, the experience is surprisingly good; The device is very responsive and the sound quality is clear. However, after about 20 minutes of operation, the cracks reappeared; The device would lose connection, the audio would go out of sync and often it would end up in the aforementioned bluetooth wifi loop until I restarted the device and turned it off. If all else goes according to plan, your home iOS device will connect to your home Wi-Fi and CarPlay will stop working. This is the part that is not a manufacturer's fault; There's no way to prioritize networks on iOS, and even if you go to your iCloud-synced Mac to do that, you can't set it to the highest priority since you never explicitly joined the thing's Wi-Fi. So that's annoying too. In general, when it works, it's great! But I found that the time it worked was too little compared to the time it didn't, given the cost of this thing. I have only bought one wired device since then and it works great and I would recommend it to anyone who has asked for it. I'm hoping Apple fixes the WiFi prioritization issue in the future, and when that happens I'll be watching to see if CarLinkit comes out with a kit that can fix this oddity. I tested. I would be very happy to try again.
