We have had this sensor installed for several weeks and after being able to try it we are very happy with its overall performance. Conclusion: Works as advertised. Very few false alarms (but not zero), range seems adequate, battery life/solar charge rate seems adequate for sub-optimal placement, and installation took a little while, but it turned out to be easier than I thought. The problem was that either the sensitivity was set to detect nothing at all, or it was triggered by any bird or branch swaying in the wind. So we basically just ignored it because all the false positives made it meaningless. This sensor uses a beam emitted by a passing object, such as a car. a garage door sensor, and is therefore much less prone to false alarms than motion sensors. be. In the few weeks we've had this setup, we've only had a few. I'm not sure what caused it, maybe the passage of wildlife, but anyway, 98% of the time we know that when this thing rings, a car is approaching. I've left the transducer on its default sensitivity setting (the receiver will ring when the beam is blocked for 0.2 seconds) and it seems to work fine, I even turn it off most of the time when I'm walking through the beam when i take my pup for a walk. . You can change it to a sensitivity level of 0.1 seconds if you want to try and detect foot traffic all the time, but I haven't tested this as it doesn't concern me. I was a little worried about picking up the signal from the sensors downstairs in front of the driveway to the receiver on the ground floor of the house which is way behind our property, so I decided to side with excess and get myself a model with a range of 1 km. I ended up using some T-posts left over from a previous fence project and using the hardware provided I was able to attach the sensors to the T-posts fairly easily. It wasn't pretty, but it seemed solid enough to do the trick, so I was really glad it all went so smoothly. If you don't have any pre-existing structures to install them, I can tell you from experience that sinking two T-pillars on either side of your driveway is a quick and easy option compared to installing multiple SUVs. Aligning the sensors was also easier than I thought, I just looked down at one of the sensors like a scope from above and after a few adjustments to the mounts it seemed to help. Sensors are installed in shady places. areas, but they face south and receive direct sunlight on sunny days. I haven't had any battery life issues so far, but if I do, as the days get much shorter and rainier in the coming winter months, like here in the Pacific Northwest, I'll definitely be updating this review.
