Buyer warning! suitable for testing, measuring and checking

This item comes with an official looking calibration sheet etc etc. I've been scammed twice but I won't do it again. I use thermometers to monitor the water temperature when I "dunk" my oyster stacks to kill biofouling but not the oysters. Piles of oysters are dipped into a giant vat (112 cubic feet) of water heated to 140 degrees (F) and held there for exactly 40 seconds. A little too hot or too cold will either kill the oysters or not kill the biofouling. The first of these items I bought was used 1 time and half way through the hot dive the item failed and started to rise. Since I use three different thermometers at the same time for exactly this type of error, I could ignore the point. I thought the fault might have been caused by a broken wire leading to the probe so 8 months later when I was ready to hot dive again I ordered another of these items. This one was even worse. The other two thermometers (Taylor's digital waterproof maximum/minimum thermometer, -20 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit and the General Tools AQ150 digital aquarium thermometer) were within 8 degrees of each other (Taylor is my new standard since it has two sensors and within 1 or 10 degrees). 2 degrees of the liquid thermometer I use to calibrate it). Thomas' new element, although unchanged in its readings, was 38 degrees above normal the entire time! If you want to do a calibration test yourself (e.g. using ice water) and then add or subtract an error as you work, this article may be suitable. But why bother when other thermometers, notably Taylor's, are much more accurate. Too bad this item doesn't work better because I liked its shape and versatility. But it's useless if it's not accurate! So buyers beware! JBK
