Review on Derwent Colored Drawing Pencils - 24 Count Metal Tin Set: Premium Quality and Vibrant Shades (0700672) by Carla Anderson

Creamy, muted colors for drawing in a handy wooden pencil shape

I bought this set for a drawing class I was taking. It was nice to experiment with these pencils, but I'm not sure I'll be using them often and they were quite expensive. They are less waxy than regular colored pencils and less chalky than pastel/chalk pencils, so you could say they fall somewhere in between the two types. I was disappointed with the quality of the white drawing pencil. I wanted the white area to have good contrast with the black area next to it; White just didn't stand out with a drawing pen. I ended up using a white crayon over a drawing pencil and that gave me the contrast I was looking for. As a pencil they are very easy to use, the tips can be sharpened to a fine point and a fine line can be drawn with them. They are easier to hold than short rectangular pencils like Conte crayons. The pens come in a collection of muted colors that the label says are perfect for landscapes and animal prints. I'd have to add some crayons in lighter colors, but that's just my preference.

Pros
  • Drawing
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other picks
