I would recommend using some sort of paper or fabric to create a pattern before cutting the material. Unfortunately I didn't have this idea until I did everything and got edges for light to pass through. The material itself isn't very thick, but it's very dark, and I wasn't expecting it to be really dark, but it's total darkness. I slept so well the last few nights. The downside is that there isn't enough light during the day, but I didn't want to take pictures and reinstall just yet. This is a complete game changer when it comes to the total blackout I need to sleep! The facility wasn't bad. You will need a squeegee or something to smooth out the bubbles and something with a point or needle to remove the foil from the backing. I tried cutting the vinyl with a precision knife while it was on the window, but I scratched the window pane and decided it was best to cut it another way. This created a gap around the edges that could have been avoided with more patience and forethought. Overall this is a great product and my favorite blackout option and I've tried everything from comforters to curtains to shades and blinds. You can still see in my photos where the paint has peeled off the velcro which I tried before I found this. Nothing compares to this, by far the purest and best!
