Review on DEWALT Diamond Cup Grinding Wheel, 4-Inch (DW4772T): Ultimate Precision and Long-Lasting Performance by Ken Barnett

Fake - Can you spot the fake?

I bought the exact same diamond grinding cup from a local wholesaler (Lowes) in January. I used it to sand a 13ft x 15ft concrete floor in preparation for a penetration sealer. I've also used it to remove a pile of self-leveling and conventional concrete from a pool deck, as well as removing an old thin layer from a 3' x 8' knee wall. The wheel I used for all these things got pretty low so I decided to order another one here quickly so I don't have to go to the store and waste time. When this new mug arrived I didn't think there was anything wrong with the packaging so I just assumed it was a genuine product. When I first started using it, I couldn't believe how "testing" it was and just wanted to spin the grinder all over the place. I dismissed it, thinking that everything would be fine once it invaded my grove. This made control a bit easier, but the pull didn't let up and was consistent from start to finish. It was a small project but it ended up taking all day because this mug just couldn't cut through it very well. (This was a 3 x 10 foot area about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick that needed to be removed.) As another person pointed out, you can't create a smooth surface because that will create grooves in the leaves surface. This mug also wore out quickly, and after 3/4 of the work it started choking on my Bosch coffee grinder. I decided to go back to an old mug I bought in January. Look, the old bowl cut through everything like butter! There were no checks, stretches or grooves. I ended up double checking everything I did before to fix it and make it look right. When I replaced the cups I noticed the paint was peeling off the one I just received so I decided to compare the two even more closely. . The color not only began to peel off, but also took on a different color. The same with product ID numbers on it, completely different color! The bottom of the cup is also slightly different and the material doesn't feel the same. The packaging of the product looks like it could be real, but that's about all there is to this thing. Now here is my dissatisfaction. I can understand using a cheap tool when it really doesn't matter, but you NEVER EVER buy a cheap/fake grinding wheel because you don't know how well that wheel will withstand the extreme speed/force it is subjected to. If any part of the wheel breaks or falls off, it could seriously injure or kill someone. I chose a branded product because I thought I was getting a quality branded product and not a fake! If this was the path I was on I could have spent a lot less and got the same quality product.
