This is not an elite tool, but if you want to sharpen fancy expensive knives then invest in a top quality diamond blade. If like me you are learning how to hand sharpen then I think this is a great product to start with before you decide to spend the big bucks on an expensive stake. Both sides cut well and wear out after use, but I've sharpened over 30 knives and both sides still work great. I use water and some green dish soap and wipe them down after use. Money well spent as far as I can tell.
