Let me first say that I only use the internally threaded portion of the pen in a non-standard application, so I cannot comment on its normal operation. What I can say about the product is that it is made of solid brass. It has no coating, paint, or any chemical finish used to change its appearance. As it is solid brass and has no visible surface finishing I believe it will tarnish to a brownish gold color over time which may be just what is needed.
