I live in a city with a population of over a million, so the choice between spikes and clutches is obvious. I also note that I have a calm driving style. I change tires when the weather is set not higher than +5 and back when it is set above +10, it turns out about 50/50 summer / winter. Different pros: Quiet, inexpensive, high quality, durable. The car rolls easily. I have been using Hankook Velcro for 10 years. The first set departed 6 years. For spikes - an unattainable dream. Cons: It requires accuracy on bare or wet ice, but this is a drawback of all friction clutches, but on snow and on asphalt you feel very confident.
