My original Hampton Bay remote stopped working after 16 years; It still runs on the fan but not the light. The red LED on the remote got very dim even with a new battery, I don't know if it was just the remote or the receiver or both. I took a chance and just bought a remote control, put in DIP switches, and now it works! Saved me from replacing the receiver in the fan. However, note that the DIP switches in the replacement remote are upside down compared to my original remote, be careful of their direction when setting up. The DIP switch positions IE 1-2-3-4 as well as ON and OFF are marked on both the original and the replacement remote control and are therefore equally easy to set.
