Take a look at one such product with a grain of salt. HDMI handshakes done through such a device, over ethernet, etc. are notoriously finicky. There are so many places between TVs, HDMI cables, Ethernet cables, remote units, and junction boxes that problems can arise. I was able to get this to work, so it's not complete overkill, but it's finicky every time I turn it on. There is no volume on a TV, but there is a picture. Other TVs seem to have been fine after changing cables several times until the random order worked. For a product that doesn't come cheap, I was hoping for more "plug and play" without the fuss. In hindsight, I wish I'd gone for a cheaper alternative with better reviews, but what appealed to me was that a device that's 4K capable, and not supposedly limited to 1080p like some other devices, was drawing attention to itself guides the future.
