This docking station obviously serves more than one purpose. It elevates the keyboard to a more ergonomic position, provides better ventilation and expands the functionality of the MacBook Pro, especially the Ethernet port. If you're unfamiliar with how they work, the dock is actually a device that sees your network when it's in use, not a MacBook Pro, so you can authorize the dock and any MacBook you connect it can access the internet. I've used this with a 15" A1990, a 16" A2141 and even one side with an A2338 (13" with 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports). You don't need to connect both sides for it to work which is great, if you're stuck with a 13" screen and need network like me. My ONLY complaints are: 1) that it doesn't support charging on the right side dock, but since it's not listed it does support those Power supply, which I haven't tried, and 2) the MBP fingerprint scanner sometimes doesn't work when the dock is plugged in; however, this applies to some docks, not just this dock.
