In January, I purchased a box of these 10-inch coconut shell 5-charcoal whole house water filters from Ronaqua in anticipation of upgrading my home's water system. Unfortunately, I was too busy at the time to complete the work. I finally finished work at the end of May, much to the wives' delight. My (overdue) installed upgrades include a couple of whole house filters installed in series (replacing all subsequent house water lines). The first filter fitted is a 5 micron polypropylene filter (pre-filter) to remove particulates and/or rust (this also extends the life of the A/C filter). A 5 micron coconut shell activated carbon filter that completely eliminates every trace of the chlorine taste the village uses in its government mandated sanitization process.We live in one of the many small communities that were once the center of many mining companies scattered across the countryside from Michigan. The village maintains a municipal water supply system (certified by both state and local authorities). This community was established in the early part of the last century and has (to put it mildly) an outdated water supply system. While there have been updates over the years (like many other older communities), more needs to be done. At the same time, most of the water supply of individual houses is supplied through old iron pipes. Municipal well water is disinfected with (modulating) concentrations of chlorine as needed. Sometimes it just tastes (and smells) awful. The now built-in pre-filter removes most of the rust and/or solids from the supply line, the rest is done by the Ronaqua activated carbon post-filter! The water from all the taps tastes great and the stains on the pipes have disappeared. THANK YOU RONAQUA! We now have excellent water quality. I can drink water again (and the ice cubes taste fantastic). JUST A NOTE: IF YOU ARE INSTALLING CHARCOAL WATER FILTERS, NOTE: The in-line faucet (behind the filters) powers your home! This process removes "extra fine” particles from activated carbon filters that may be present during both manufacturing and normal shipping/handling.
