I wanted to use this scanner as a replacement for a failed Canon scanner model 8600F which I have used to scan many thousands of slides and photos. When I got the new scanner I scanned about 100 slides that didn't seem as sharp and the slides that were scanned with the previous scanner. I then viewed these scanned images on my widescreen TV. Again, the images were less clear. So I rescanned a slide previously scanned with the 8600F. Scanner. I then compared the two scans. Scans from the 9000 scanner were significantly less sharp than those from the older model. I then had several email contacts with Canon's technical support function. They had several options but couldn't reproduce the sharpness of the old scan. They finally referred me to tech support over the phone. Model. I was told that the scanner is working within acceptable parameters. However, the performance of the new scanner impresses me significantly less than that of the 8600F. In any case, I cannot recommend this model for use in slide scanning, where image sharpness is a high priority. The problem can only occur with the specific device that I received. In any case, I would like to get another scanner that offers image sharpness comparable to the 8600F.
