Review on Saris Solo Trunk Mounted Black by Robert Lemons

Does it work for accessories

I was keen to buy one of the hitch posts as at least two of my bikes are fairly heavily loaded - 40lbs+ but I found my trailer ball joint was damaged from salt corrosion and just wouldn't come off - she couldn't even pull the locking bar out of the pen. So I was faced with the task of transporting a 30 kg bike on something else. I have a Yakima roof rack fork mount for modern bikes, but the axles on my older bikes are the wrong size for me. The only option I was left with was one of these things (for the money I had to spend, of course). Now you've skipped the backstory, here's some meat and two veggies - this thing really works. The ratchet straps are stiff and hold the top tube well, although for narrow tubes I cut out a few pieces of the old tire and wrap them around the frame where they hold the bike. There is another strap that goes around the seat tube and holds the bike to keep it from wobbling and I used toe straps to secure the front wheel to the down tube and another to keep the rear wheel from spinning while the car moves. I installed it on the back of a 2004 Forester and it seems solid. With the bike on it, there was a little movement that made me a little nervous at first (the thought of the bike falling and causing an accident on the freeway), but it turned out to be just a slight deformation of the plastic , which seems to twist a little. Two four hour rides later at 70mph and no problem. I would buy a Saris bike rack again if needed.
