We added carpet tape to help reinforce the adhesive. I don't know if the adhesive that came on the product would have been sufficient, I just didn't want to take a chance given that I have a kid and pets who run up and down the stairs all day. Will these last for years, who knows, but I needed a quick fix that had some style and these fit the bill. You do need a ruler to measure each tread so that they align as you add each one -- I started from the top and went down one by one. Thanks!
